Who said "accountants are boring"?

It's a well known line but we will probably never know who first said it and if he or she was an accountant. And for those of you thinking of doing a quick google search – good luck, as I found no names. You will however find a great Monty Python sketch on the subject.

So what has this got to do with the news and views from the Art Department? Well, we have just completed a brand-building project for Scottish accountancy firm Meston Reid. A company that continues to go from strength to strength and a company that realises that even after twenty-five years in business you can never be complacent with your company brand.

They recognised the need to keep their brand fresh, appealing to new employees and relevant to their existing and potential clients. Not what you might expect from a business sector tainted with that broad-brush description of 'boring'.

With Meston Reid what we experienced was an enthusiasm and belief that the company brand was a vital element for taking the company forward. Furthermore, this was not a project that they delegated to a single individual to run on their behalf. Every partner at Meston Reid took a great interest in all stages of the project and gave us valuable feedback at every step.

Here at the Art Department we often talk about energising decision makers in companies through the work that we do and we have plenty of evidence for that. It's not to suggest that our clients lack energy and focus prior to working with us, it's that they start to see their business in a different light when we use great design to amplify the real gems of their business offering.

With Meston Reid this Brand Vision presentation was especially pertinent as it tied in with their twenty-five years in business milestone and the refurbishment of their working environment.

And far from this being a task of taking a 'boring' industry sector and trying to turn that into something more dynamic, it was a case of reminding everyone about the vital role that a great accountancy firm can play in shaping the success of a client's business.
